Group 2: Learning to Play; Playing to Learn – Integrating Play into the Primary Classroom EPV Summer Course (15 - 26 July 2024)

Who is this Summer Course for?

You are a teacher who wants to create a playful learning environment for you and your students.

You are a teacher who would like a better understanding of how to use play for learning experiences in your classroom.

You are a teacher who wants to gain confidence and competence in your own skills and utilising play as a pedagogy.

This course is suitable for teachers working at primary level.

By the end of this Summer Course, you will:

• Learn a new range of skills which can be used with all ages at primary level.
• Dispel the myths surrounding play.
• Learn how play is the pedagogy of the updated Primary Curriculum in Ireland.
• Have the confidence to plan for and use play to increase the learning experience and outcomes for students.
• Exploring the research and psychology underpinning the benefits of play in the classroom and as a methodology for learning.
• Be empowered to develop a playful and thematic approach to teaching & learning.
• Have the confidence to formatively assess learning through play and use this to inform your planning.

Why have you created this Summer Course?

According to the NCCA in 2020, “one of the aspirations for the new Primary Curriculum Framework is that teachers provide relevant, rich learning experiences through playful and engaging approaches”.

This EPV course aims to provide teachers with the knowledge and confidence in providing such learning experiences.

This a practical course which explores key elements of play-led learning, explorative learning and learning through play. This online EPV course is delivered in a practical, solution-focused, participant-led manner and showcases effective strategies, which can then be used in the classroom.

Participants are given the opportunity to reflect on their practice and implement positive changes during the course. This course will support teaching and learning through play.
